Meet Mother Ann

The Very Reverend Ann M. Tillman, Rector

Mother Ann was born in Alaska and raised in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication from Cornell University and a Master of Divinity degree (2008) from The General Theological Seminary in New York City. She served prior to seminary at Grace Episcopal Church in Elmira, NY, and during seminary at the Church of the Incarnation in Manhattan and at the Church of the Atonement in the Bronx. Following ordination to the transitional deaconate, she continued to serve at Atonement as Deacon and Pastoral Associate. She was ordained to the Sacred Order of Priests on February 21, 2009, and celebrated her first Eucharist at the historic altar of Caroline Church in Setauket, Long Island, where she served as Curate from November 1, 2008 until she took up the reigns as Rector of Saint Matthias’ Church on July 1, 2012.

Mother Ann is married to Jason Tillman, who manages the labs in the Electrical Engineering Department at the University at Buffalo, and tutors high school students in math and science during the academic year. Mother Ann and Jason enjoy exploring the village with their Miniature Schnauzer, Molly. They have two grown sons, a daughter-in-law and a daughter-in-law to be, a beautiful granddaughter, and two grand-dogs who live in the Ithaca area. In her spare time, Mother Ann enjoys reading, writing, coloring, and listening to all kinds of music—from Plainsong to Punk Rock.

Mother Ann’s ministry focuses on using her gifts in the areas of pastoral care, liturgy and music, and communication to help create a sacred space where people come to know and love God and, especially, to know themselves as God’s beloved children, empowered by the Holy Spirit to be Christ’s presence in the world.
