Back in the 1960s, there was a song whose refrain went, “These boots are made for walking’, and that’s just what they’ll do, and if you don’t watch out these boots will walk all over you!” As See those footprints up there on the wall? Those are YOUR feet, walking in love – representing your love for God and for this place – walking all through our halls!
The theme of our Annual Giving Campaign this year is Walk in Love, and before we had put any pledge cards in the mail, we had received 12 of them back and fully filled in! A true miracle!
Each family that returns a pledge card will have a foot on the wall, and our hope is that the footprints will stretch from the back door to the door of the church. As of this writing, the footprints stretch from just inside the back door to midway over the “Wall of Rectors!”
We have a large heart in the church (“Walk in LOVE” – get it?) with little markings designating the amount pledged carefully figured mathematically on the side and the heart painted in like a thermometer, indicating the total of the pledges as of the end of business on Thursday.
We set our pledge goal this year just 5% higher than last year: $185,000. When we meet this goal, we will go a long way toward meeting our operating expenses through pledges, reducing our deficit budgets, and keeping our endowments intact and earning money for us. If every family that pledged last year were to raise their pledge by just 5%, we would easily meet that goal. Some will be able to do more and some, due to understandable circumstances, will need to pledge less – but we hope that ALL of you will want to pledge something to help support our life, mission, and ministry together.
In addition to the financial piece, there is much that needs doing to keep our ministry vibrant, and the more that take part, the merrier and the better off we are. Please be sure to turn your pledge card over and indicate ways in which you plan to walk in love with us this year. Every one has unique and wonderful gifts, and I continue to marvel as I learn what each of you has to offer. If nothing else, there is a box to check with “Other,” and you can tell us what you would like to offer — the more creative, the better!
We are off to a wonderful start! Keep the momentum going by getting your foot on the wall soon – and come join us for our next events, all centered around walking themes:
