Sesquicentennial Committee Starts Working

SMC150

Our parish’s 150th anniversary, or sesquicentennial, will be on St. Matthias’ Day on Sunday, February 24, 2019. We are planning a yearlong celebration beginning on that date, and hoping to coordinate some of our celebration with the bicentennial events for the Town of Aurora.

Even though it is fifteen months away, we would like to start gathering the personal stories and memories from our church community to help us discover what we might highlight during our milestone year.

We are going to begin with some informal small group conversations at the church, 3 to 6 people at a time. We will have a number of these in the coming months to hear about your early experiences of St. Matthias and the East Aurora area.

We think we would be overwhelmed with interest if we invited everyone at once, and we’d like these discussions to be more relaxed and intimate. As we identify meeting dates, we will send out a wave of invitations. Our first few discussions will happen over the next few weeks. If you are not in the first batch of invitations, be assured that you will be in a later wave. We hope to talk with you soon!

The sesquicentennial will be an enthusiastic time in our parish, and if you would like to help out on the committee, or with any part of the planning, please let us know!
