St. Matthias’ Members Serve the South Buffalo Community Table

Sunday, August 14th, members of Saint Matthias’ Church helped to prepare and serve dinner to more than forty hungry people at the South Buffalo Community Table. We gathered a little after 1 o’clock to begin our preparations – some created a delicious spaghetti sauce, defrosted and chopped meat, and cooked pasta;  others made garlic bread and wrapped plastic ware place settings; others built a healthy salad, or washed and packaged strawberries and grapes for a take-away; many served the meal while others washed dishes or served as runners. All of us were greatly enriched by our time and fellowship in working together, and by reaching out to serve God’s beloved children who are in need. Heartfelt thanks to all who volunteered their time!

We are, all of us together, ministers in God’s Church. Indeed, our Catechism reminds us that “The ministers of the Church are lay persons, bishops, priest, and deacons.” The first task of all orders “…is to represent Christ and his Church.” As we live into our Mission Statement and walk in love with Christ and with one another, I pray that we will continue to strengthen and deepen the various ways in which we represent Christ and his Church to one another, to our community, and to the world at large.

If you are not already connected with one of our ministries, and even if you are participating in several, you will have a great opportunity to find out more about all of our various offerings at our Tailgate Party Ministry Fair on Sunday, September 18th after the 10 o’clock service. Come have a hot dog – lunch is on us – and explore the wonderful ways in which you can take part in this amazing ministry that we share!Soup Kitchen
