Coming to Saint Matthias’ in January!
Father Masud Ibn Syedullah, TSSF (Third Order of Saint Francis), will be with us in January to offer an excellent program called “My Neighbor: A Gift of God” to us, to our Ministerium, and to the Diocese Fr. Syedullah was my field parish supervisor in the Bronx, and remains a dear friend and mentor. In his retirement he serves as the Director of Roots & Branches, an organization “dedicated to providing faith formation and spiritual growth through a variety of programs and events.”
About the “My Neighbor” program, Fr. Syedullah writes:
More than 7 billion people are precious to God in our world today. While we can’t know more than a couple hundred individually, we can choose to treat every person as a neighbor, a gift from God, the way that Jesus did. Participants are guided through discussion and exercises that move away from cultural messages of fear and suspicion (prejudices) toward those who differ from us, and toward the Holy Spirit, who shows us fresh ways to be in appreciative relationships.
The program schedule is as follows:
Friday, January 13th from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.
Saturday, January 14th from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
The program is free, and includes lunch and refreshments. Saint Matthias’ Church offers this program through a very generous anonymous gift. Please share this invitation with your friends and neighbors, and come deepen your wisdom and nurture your spirit.
Fr. Syedullah will also be our guest preacher on January 15th.
