First and foremost, I want to thank the parishioners of St. Matthias’ for their warm welcome of us. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank you.
My name is Leslee Chilcott; I am the supervisor of the Afternoon Respite Program. I supervise two programs, one in Hamburg as well as this one here at your church. I have an associate’s in human and community services, as well as a bachelor’s in the same, with a concentration in child psychology. I am overwhelmed by the generosity of your parish and the warm welcome we have received!
Our clients range in age from 10 to 21. We serve individuals that are school aged, as we are an after school program (similar to the YMCA). Respite as defined by the Webster’s dictionary is a short period of relief from round-the-clock care. We essentially provide a short period of relief to families with children who have disabilities. We provide positive experiences for our clients, form positive relationships, and provide support in the community. This program currently has 8 individuals enrolled, but we have room to grow! If you know of people fitting our demographic who needs this type of service, please invite them to get in touch with us!
We encourage our clients to partake in community events, assist with daily living tasks, and participate in fun activities during the day!
